Cathal O'Neill 1930 - 2022

Cathal O'Neill graduated from University College Dublin in 1955 and subsequently studied under and worked for Mies van der Rohe in Chicago, Illinois.

He established his practice on his return to Dublin in 1961 and commenced teaching architecture at UCD soon afterwards. In 1972, he accepted the role of Head of School on condition that he be permitted to remain in private practice. He was widely credited for steering the school to a position of international recognition.

Following his retirement from teaching in 1996, he returned energetically to full-time practice, being fully involved in the design of a wide variety of building types.

He was our enthusiastic and active lead designer until shortly before his death at the age of 91. He will continue to inspire us into the future.
