This long-established bar-restaurant in the heart of Temple Bar came under new ownership and was rebranded as a prohibition style speakeasy. There is no external signage and the door is generally kept closed and operated by intercom. As is often the case with small terraced city centre bars, the smoking ban has given rise to groups of patrons going outside and congregating to have a cigarette. Even those who don’t smoke often wish to join their friends who do.

We applied for permission to convert the flat roof of the building into a smoking terrace but were refused permission by both the council and the Bord, on the grounds of loss of amenity to local residents. There had been no third party objections to the proposal.
